Clearing permits

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1986, a person must not clear native vegetation unless the person holds a permit or the clearing is exempt. Penalties for illegally clearing are up to $250,000 for an individual and $500,000 for a body corporate. Permits are issued by the Department of Environment and Conservation. There are a number of opportunities to appeal against decisions, recommendations and orders in respect to applications to clear native vegetation. These are as follows:
